Can You Fill the Needs of Friends of CCVI?

1. CCVI holds library hours every other Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 and 12:30-1:15. They are looking for volunteers to help the students check out books. If you can volunteer for a shift (you do not need to commit for every session), or are willing to put your name on the substitute list, please let me know.
2. The Friends of CCVI will be making tactile bags for the classrooms on September 27 from 9:30 – 11:30 at CCVI. These consist of a bag for each letter of the alphabet, which contain items starting with that letter. If you are willing to help assemble the bags, or purchase the items for a specific letter, please contact me.
3. Are you a member of a sewing group? The Friends have the squares for a tactile quilt which need to be sewn together. Please let me know if you can help out.

1,167 Volunteer Hours!

That’s right. Last year, our alumnae gave a total of 1,167 volunteer hours for our Foundation. How can you help?

There are two types of Foundation hours. Service hours involve “hands-on” help to those who are blind or visually-impaired. Examples include volunteering in the classroom or library at CCVI and outside the classroom by making needed items such as “touch and feel” books. Awareness hours entail learning about our Foundation, CCVI and Alphapointe, whether among our members or within the community. Board meetings and meetings involving solicitation of donations are included. Actual fundraising events are not included.

Please record your hours starting July 1, 2011 and ending June 30, 2012. Contact Debbie Link, dblink98@aol.com, to let her know how you will be volunteering this year. Debbie will email you monthly for your list of hours.1,167 Volunteer Hours!

Anchor Splash Sponsors Needed for Mu Chapter

Each fall, the women of Mu chapter of Delta Gamma at the University of Missouri hold their annual philanthropy, Anchor Splash, to benefit sight related entities through the Delta Gamma Foundation.  The event consists of clothing sales, serenades, a Most Beautiful Eyes fundraiser, and it all culminates with The Plunge- a synchronized swimming competition.  Anchor Splash is also preceded by the Delta Gamma Foundation Lectureship on Values and Ethics.  Since 1998, the lectureship has brought notable speakers to campus to discuss the University’s four values- Respect, Responsibility, Discovery, and Excellence.

Last year, fourteen fraternities participated in Anchor Splash, and we were able to bring Sean and Collins Tuohy, the real dad and daughter behind the hit movie, “The Blind Side”, to campus.  Between Anchor Splash, the lectureship, and donations from the chapter, we were able to send thousands of dollars to the Delta Gamma Foundation, who works with various organizations nationwide to support aid to the blind, vision preservation, schools for the visually impaired, and guide dog trainings, etc.

Holding events like these can be costly, and the women of Mu Chapter need your help!  A donation of $200 or more entitles sponsors to a complimentary Anchor Splash T-shirt.  As an Anchor Splash sponsor, you will have your name printed on the back of the T-shirts, as well as on banners hung in front of Greek houses throughout Columbia.   However, any donation will be appreciated.   Please make all checks to the “Delta Gamma Foundation”.   (Donations are fully tax deductible if made out to our Foundation.)

If you are interested in donating, please send donations to

Nikki Bracken

900 South Providence Road

Columbia MO 65201

Donations are due September 24th, 2011.

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thank you for all your support,

Nikki Bracken
