A Message from the President

president

First of all, I want to share with you what a wonderful experience it was for me to attend the 2008 Delta Gamma Convention in Palm Desert as your Greater Kansas City Alumnae President.

It was such an honor for me to represent you and with just under 900 DG’s in attendance, I realized again what a wonderful organization to which we all belong. My only regret was that I wished you all could have shared the experience with me. I enjoyed the friendly sharing of ideas for programs and interest groups as well as the wonderful motivational speakers EO provided. The calling of roll for all collegians and alumnae voting in General Sessions as well as observing an initiation ceremony again are experiences I will not soon forget. One message that was reiterated throughout the week was our pledge to DG once we first began as a new member - DG is a Lifetime Commitment!

Whether you are able to attend a monthly activity, help at your school doing vision screening, attend our Tables That Bloom fundraiser, make a silent auction donation or purchase, donate in some way to our sight related causes, pay your local or national per capita dues, call a sister with whom you have not spoken in years --- these are all ways in which you will keep your commitment to Delta Gamma. I applaud those who have given generously, and encourage others to step forward and begin your commitment now.

I am proud to announce that the KC Alumnae won some prestigious awards this year. We received the Alumnae Excellence Award, placed 6th in the nation for our Service for Sight Hours in the community, and were awarded the Barbara Nussa Boersma Web site Award for being the #1 Ranked Website in the country. Much thanks goes to Robyn Haas for all her hard work in making our Web site so user friendly and packed full of information. This last award is named after Barb Boersma who joined our alumnae group from Minnesota a few years ago. She also co-chaired our Tables That Bloom fundraiser last year and is continuing again this year. She played an integral part in the revamping of the national website http://www.deltagamma.org, providing us with a tool to reach out to our DG sisters around the country through myDG which can be found near the top of the first page of http://www.deltagamma.org. I hope you will take the time to check it out at our first meeting of the year. We will have laptops available to guide you through the local and national sites. Barb Boersma was also awarded the Anchor Award which recognizes distinguished alumnae whose Fraternity service demonstrates a unique and lasting impact on the entire Fraternity. We are so very proud of Barb and feel very fortunate to have her be a part of the KC Alumnae.

Last, but not least, I would like to thank all who were a part of the Tables That Bloom fundraiser in April, those who generously gave above the local standard dues level the past few years or those who provided holiday gift donations at the holiday brunch, for I am pleased to announce that the Greater Kansas City Alumnae was able to give nearly $15,000 last year to sight related charities. These groups are very appreciative of our efforts to assist them and I thank you again for your continued support. I also wish to encourage you to pay your local and per capita dues to the Fraternity as well as volunteer to help at our 5th Annual Tables That Bloom fundraiser on Wednesday, April 8th. It looks to be even better than last year with a new entertainment concept we believe you will all enjoy.

Also, please take time to check out our fabulous monthly events this year as well as our fun-loving interest groups! Thanks again for everyone’s efforts in keeping the KC Alumnae a vital and caring group.

ITB,

Janise Kuechler Naughton
